Overview

Altivar ATV31 repair and refurbishment

The Altivar ATV31 is an older compact drive that was widely installed across UK manufacturing during the 2000s. Many ATV31 units remain in active service on machinery that is still productive — and with replacement requiring new panels and parameterisation, refurbishment is often the more practical option.

Expertise

Common Altivar ATV31 faults we fix

  • Power stage failure caused by IGBT degradation or a supply transient — common in drives after extended service

  • DC bus capacitor aging leading to USF (undervoltage) trips and reduced braking performance

  • Control card faults including parameter loss and loss of analogue I/O function, often following a power cycle event

  • Pre-charge circuit faults causing CrF alarms and preventing the drive from starting up correctly

Process

How it works

  1. 1

    Send details

Share the drive model, fault symptoms, and any photos or error codes.

  2. 2

    Diagnostics

Bench diagnostics isolate the fault and scope the repair.

  3. 3

    Repair, Refurbish & Test

Component-level repair and thorough refurbishment with outcomes tested before return.

  4. 4

    Return to service

Confirmed results and return logistics for your drive.

FAQ

Altivar ATV31 repair FAQs

My ATV31 is an older model — is it worth repairing?

If the machine it drives has years of productive life remaining, refurbishment is usually more cost-effective than a replacement drive plus the associated labour for panel modification and recommissioning.

Can you repair an ATV31 with a CrF pre-charge fault?

Yes. CrF faults are caused by a failure in the pre-charge relay or resistor circuit. We diagnose and replace the affected component as part of the repair.

Do you replace DC bus capacitors on ATV31 drives as a preventative measure?

Yes. On older drives, we recommend assessing the DC bus capacitors and replacing them where measurements show degradation — even if they are not the presenting fault.
