Overview

Catalyst 2960-X / 2960-XR repair and refurbishment

The Cisco Catalyst 2960-X and 2960-XR are end-of-sale managed Layer 2/Layer 3 enterprise access switches with the largest installed base of any enterprise switch in the UK. Available in 24-port and 48-port configurations with PoE+ and FlexStack-Plus stacking, these switches serve as the standard office access layer in thousands of UK organisations. Migration to the Catalyst 9200 requires new hardware, new licences, and network reconfiguration. We carry out component-level repair on 2960-X and 2960-XR units.

Expertise

Common Catalyst 2960-X / 2960-XR faults we fix

  • Power circuitry faults causing complete failure to power on — the most common hardware fault on the 2960-X platform

  • FlexStack-Plus stacking module faults disrupting stack ring connectivity and causing stack member isolation

  • PoE controller degradation reducing available PoE budget or causing intermittent PoE failures on individual ports

  • Boot faults caused by flash memory failure or power corruption on the boot circuit

Process

How it works

  1. 1

    Send details

Share the switch model, fault symptoms, and any error LEDs or log output.

  2. 2

    Diagnostics

Bench diagnostics isolate the fault to board, component, or subsystem.

  3. 3

    Repair, Refurbish & Test

Component-level repair with port validation and management system testing before return.

  4. 4

FAQ

Catalyst 2960-X / 2960-XR repair FAQs

Is the Catalyst 2960-X still available new?

No. The Catalyst 2960-X and 2960-XR are end-of-sale. Third-party repair is the practical option for keeping these switches in service without migrating to the Catalyst 9200.

My 2960-X has reduced PoE capacity — is this repairable?

Yes. Reduced PoE capacity is typically caused by PoE controller degradation. We diagnose at board level and carry out the component repair.

Can you repair a 2960-X that will not power on?

Yes. Complete failure to power on is the most common fault. We carry out component-level repair on the power circuitry.
