CONTROL TECHNIQUES VFD REPAIR & REFURBISHMENT

Commander SK repair and refurbishment.

Component-level diagnostics and repair for the Control Techniques Commander SK. Recovered and tested before return.

Overview

Commander SK repair and refurbishment

The Commander SK is one of the most widely deployed AC drives in UK manufacturing. Its open-loop vector control and broad power range made it a default choice for conveyors, pumps, and general machinery. We carry out component-level refurbishment on Commander SK drives. This drive was also sold under the Emerson nameplate during Emerson Electric's ownership of Control Techniques between 1994 and 2017 — the hardware is identical.

Expertise

Common Commander SK faults we fix

  • IGBT inverter bridge failure — the most common power stage fault, often presenting as overcurrent or earth fault trips on startup

  • DC bus electrolytic capacitor degradation — drives frequently require capacitor replacement as part of a full refurbishment after extended service

  • Gate driver board faults causing erratic IGBT switching and intermittent overcurrent alarms

  • Operator keypad and display failure preventing parameter access or fault code readout

FAQ

Commander SK repair FAQs

Can you repair a Commander SK that shows an overcurrent fault on startup?

Yes. An overcurrent fault at startup typically points to IGBT failure or a gate driver fault. We carry out a full bench diagnostic to identify the root cause before any repair work begins.

My Commander SK is out of production — can you still repair it?

Yes. The Commander SK is discontinued but we carry out repairs using compatible components. We check parts availability before confirming the scope and will advise clearly if a repair is not viable.

Do you refurbish Commander SK drives for use on single-phase supplies?

Yes. We service both single-phase input (100V–240V) and three-phase input Commander SK variants — contact us with your specific model and we will confirm.
